Apple Mac OS X Lion

Apple announced the availability of Mac OS X Lion from Mac App Store on July 20, 2011.

According to Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller, Lion is available to globally since today. He said that lion is going to revolutionize the Mac upgrading, because when Mac user launch the Mac App Store, buy Lion with their account, the download and install process could start automatically.

Mac users will get Lion in several ways. As the Press Release mentioned, Mac OS X 10.6.6 Snow Leopard could be upgraded to Mac OS X Lion from Mac App Store at $29.99. The Lion for OS X upgrade is about 4GB. If users cannot do the upgrade thing at home, they can download Lion at Apple retail Store. Mac users who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011 could get the new Lion with no additional charge. But the upgrade must be done within 30days. Mac OS X Lion Server requires Lion and is available from the Mac App Store for $49.99 (US).And Lion will be made available on a USB thumb drive through Apple Store for $69 in later August.
